We are honored to have recently been awarded a series of grants and state-wide recognition for our commitment to cleaner manufacturing practices. This recognition came to fruition at the prestigious Champions of Toxics Use Reduction Day Ceremony at the Massachusetts State House, where we proudly represented our dedication to manufacturing brass musical instruments with safer cleaning systems. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our very own Chuck Shepherd and our entire team for their invaluable support and dedication to this initiative.
A Journey Towards Safer Manufacturing
Through hard work and collaboration with the Toxics Use Reduction Institute (TURI) and the Massachusetts Office of Technical Assistance (Mass. OTA), we have successfully transitioned from hazardous chemicals to safer cleaning systems for manufacturing our custom brass musical instruments. This vital initiative began nearly a decade ago and over the years we have made determined efforts to improve our cleaning processes. In 2019 with the support of the TURI cleaning laboratory we embarked on a transformative project to identify safer cleaning solutions and received a TURI grant in 2022, allowing us to acquire cutting-edge ultrasonic cleaning machines and further enhance our manufacturing capabilities.

Through meticulous research and testing, we evaluated a diverse range of lead-free solder alternatives, meticulously assessing factors such as their ease of application, ability to maintain structural integrity, and impact on playability.
This transition was not only driven by environmental responsibility but also by our dedication to the well-being of our employees. By moving away from lead-based solder, we are fostering a safer and healthier workplace, reducing potential risks associated with hazardous materials.
